This book shows a selection of work by illustrators who are choosing to stick with handmade letterforms in an increasingly digital world.
This book is also going onto my christmas list!! I love seeing the unique ways people are creating type. I am especially interesting in handcrafted type, it is incredible what designers can do!

Below are few examples of the contains of the book....

Sarah King

I know she is very popular at the moment and everyone is talking about her and including her in their blogs, however I did not want to miss out of the opportunity of recording her work. I want to have her in my 'database' so that I refer back to her at any point.

I love the fact that she is thinking outside the mould - why does type just have to be on paper? I would like to try experimenting in this manner and investigate the possibilities. Perhaps if I take the type module I could push this further.

Sam Winston

http://www.samwinston.com/

The first 3 pieces below shows the extent of my knowledge of Winston. I heard about him last year in my PPD sessions, however I never founded this up. I now wish I had done so earlier as I am really interested in this aspect of type. To create something out of writing.

This is the part of Sam Winston I never knew existed.....

(I love the next two pieces)

He does not just stick to type either, below are some examples of other stuff he does.

www.typeworkshop.com

This website is brilliant for showing you visual basics of type. I want to investigate type further but this is a good starting point. The website is a fun and light-hearted why of explaining dull things!

www.ilovetypography.com

Flicking through this website I came across the following images which I find interesting and unique.
My ongoing type workshops are really helping me to appreciate type a lot more.

Clever use of type shapes.

I want to photograph my portfolio in this style - with the bull clips.

Design for Media

For my latest project (more information can be found on my other blog - link down right hand side) I have to portray a word through the way it is presented and placed on the page. One of my words is 'fold'. Whilst researching around this idea I found a piece by Daniella Spinat and thought it was very relevant to what I am trying to achieve.
